The Council's Role

The first thing you should do is find out if your school has written a Travel Plan.

You can look for information about your school in our Travel Hub section.

What is a Travel Plan?

A School Travel Plan is a report that looks at how pupils, parents and teachers can get to school as quickly, easily, safely and environmentally friendly as possible.

Its is a good way to start thinking about how to put in schemes such as walking buses, ‘park and strides’, cycle-to-school schemes, car sharing etc

It also gives councils loads of information about how you get to school so we can help make sure that it is as safe as possible, through engineering work for example.

If your school doesn’t already have a Travel Plan, then ask your head teacher if they can write one this school year – you could also volunteer to be the pupil representative on the steering group.
