Over three quarters of the maintained schools in Hounslow have completed School Travel Plans. Amongst the proposals that were put forward were examples of the following:
- ‘Walking buses’
- ‘Park and Stride’ (parking a short distance from the school at a prescribed site and walking the rest of the way)
- Involvement in walking promotions such as Walk on Wednesday (Wow) and Walk to School Week
- Improved cycle parking
- Increasing take up of playground based cycle training (UPP Level 1)
- Running on-road cycle training (UPP Level 2)
- Bringing in cycle maintenance classes – ‘Dr Bike’
- Promoting cycle maps which show possible safe routes to school
- Setting up a car sharing database
- Supporting the pedestrian training scheme for junior and infant pupils

Bids for engineering work based on the recommendations made in School Travel Plans were also successful – in total Hounslow raised £320,000 for engineering improvements in the 06/07 year through the STP process.
