School Travel Planning (STP) is a process of looking at all the problems caused by travel to and from schools during the day, and then putting together a package of solutions to help reduce the negative effects of this daily flow of pupils, staff and parents.
Solutions put forward in Travel Plans should concentrate on making the journey to school more sustainable (less polluting and damaging to the environment), healthier (using active transport methods such as walking or cycling which provide children with valuable exercise) and safer for all children and adults.
Writing a Travel Plan means engaging the whole school community (through the use of surveys and a representative Steering Group) to discover the exact problems that exist at your school.
It is proposed that all Hounslow’s schools, including independents, will have a travel plan in place by 2009.
