The Council's Role - Engineering

More often than not the only time we know that a road, junction or crossing is dangerous is when someone is hurt or killed there. This is hardly satisfactory.

A well researched STP that consults properly with parents, pupils, and staff can often reveal several unsuspected areas of concern, from busy crossings, to unlit alley ways to restrictive pavements or the lack of cycling infrastructure.

Using your document we can bid for implementation money to pay for road improvements in the vicinity of your school. Funds are not unlimited but schools within Hounslow have benefited from such measures as road calming schemes, new crossings and improved cycle lanes.

Engineers from the traffic department are available for meetings with school travel plan steering groups to discuss particular issues and to offer insights as to how they could be addressed. Contact your STA to arrange a meeting.
